Mid-century Design Inspiration
September 19, 2020
As I settle into my new home and begin to tweak things and make it mine, the mantra “spark joy” reminds me to be patient. To wait until my heart flutters—and have faith that the vision in my head will come together if only I give it time.
And do you want to know a little secret? Making your home beautiful DOES NOT have to be expensive.
So far, my transformations have included paint (lots of white and green 🥰), some new light fixtures, and beautiful well-made furniture that I found at antique stores...including a nightstand I found for $30 whose twin is currently being sold on Chairish for $450. 🙈🤯
Here’s the other beautiful thing: Because I’m being patient and taking the time to find affordable statement pieces that knock my socks off, I’m still making my home BEAUTIFUL, but I can splurge on special things.
Like the gigantic painting I’m about to buy from an artist who I’ve admired for what feels like forever.
So here’s my challenge to you: Don’t let anything into your home that doesn’t TRULY spark joy.
And if you’re feeling icky but can’t quite put your finger on why, then wait. Something better will come along.
And when you feel the spark, DO SOMETHING. Get the night stand. Inquire about the painting. Be bold and paint that wall a statement color.
Your home should be a power spot. Make it the beautifully inspiring place you deserve!
Pictured: Some of my many inspiration images. Nope, my home doesn’t look like this yet. YET. 😉
P.S. Our home was built in 1970, so I am reeeeeeally steering into the mid-century modern look that I love so much.
